Opening Hours and Bookings
We’re open seven days a week to cater to all your fly fishing needs. Our fishing day begins at 8:00am and runs until just before dusk or 7:00pm—whichever comes first. It’s always a good idea to book in advance, especially during peak times, so please remember to either email or call ahead to reserve your spot to avoid disappointment. For the Beginners: Fly Fishing Introduction
Never fished before? No problem! Moorhen Trout Fishery offers a beginner-friendly introduction to fly fishing, perfect for those looking to try their hand at this rewarding sport. For just £120 per person, you’ll enjoy a 4-hour, one-on-one lesson with one of our experienced instructors. The lesson includes a 2 Fish Catch & Keep ticket, rod hire, and all the guidance you need to get started. After the lesson, you can continue fishing on your own, and we’ll be there to help you every step of the way.
Just a reminder, you’ll need a valid fishing license before your lesson, which you can easily purchase online at gov.uk/get-a-fishing-license.
Flexible Fishing and the Moorhen Credit System
At Moorhen, we understand that fishing doesn’t always go as planned. That’s why we offer a Credit System. If, for any reason, you don’t catch your total number of fish on the day, you can return another day, pay just £15, and continue fishing. These credits are valid for one year from the date of issue, giving you the flexibility to come back when it’s convenient for you.
Replacement Guarantee & Payment Options
We want you to have the best experience possible, so we also offer a Replacement Guarantee. If you catch a fish that weighs less than 2lbs, you’ll be eligible for a replacement to make sure you leave with a truly satisfying catch.
When it comes to payment, we accept a wide range of methods, including credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Visa Electron, JCB, Maestro, and Solo), as well as cash.

Your comfort is important to us. All anglers enjoy free tea and coffee throughout the day to keep you refreshed while you fish. Our friendly and helpful staff are always on hand to ensure you have everything you need for a successful day. We also offer a selection of hot food, confectionary, and hot and cold beverages for purchase. TO ensure that all our anglers have access to the latest tackle, our on-site shop is kept well-stocked and up to date with all the tackles needed for a day out on the lake.
Please note that, for the comfort of all our guests, we don’t allow dogs on the fishery.
